How to Assemble IKEA HEMNES 8-Drawer Dresser

Step-by-step assembly

1. 

   Step 1

   Screw 12 cam bolts (118331) into the four legs.

   Legs are marked L1, L2, R1, R2. Screw each bolt in fully — no gap under the collar.

   Step 2

   Push 8 short dowels (101350) into the side panels, then fit the legs.

   Don’t mix them up with the long 101353 dowels.

   Step 3

   Insert 12 cam locks (110630) and turn them clockwise.

   Step 4

   Push 6 long dowels (101353) in and press the centre batten onto them.

   Screw the runners to both frames: 6 screws (107716) each.

   Runners marked IKEA CR go on one frame, IKEA CL on the other. Then press the 4 floor pads onto the leg ends.

   Screw 10 cam bolts (118331) into the legs. Push 14 dowels into the rails.

   The rails get a dowel (101350) in each end.

   Stand the rails in the left frame and lock with 5 cam locks.

   The frame lies on its outer face; the rails point straight up.

   Centre divider: screw runners to both sides, 9 screws (108462) per side.

   Then screw in the 4 bolts from the separate bag (603440).

   Lower the divider onto the rails. Fix with 3 screws (100214).

   Use the Allen key 100001.

    Fit the three remaining short rails. Lock with 2 cam locks.

    Lay the second frame on top. Lock with 5 cam locks.

    Screw in the adjustable foot (107862), then stand the dresser up.

    Fit the two top-row dividers with their runners.

    Screw 100232 in from the top (Allen key 100006), 100214 from below (100001).

    Top, upside down: fit the 2 wall brackets and 11 cam bolts.

    Brackets 106989 with screws 109049 and washers 100823.

    Push in 6 dowels, lower the top on and screw it from below.

    4 screws 100214 with the Allen key 100001.

    Lay the dresser on its front. Fit the two back panels.

    Mark the centre lines of the rails on the panels with a pencil.

    Nail the back panels on with 30 nails (101221).

    Nail along the rails and legs, then stand the dresser up again.

    Fix the dresser to the wall through both brackets.

    Screws 109567 with washers 100823. Drill Ø 8 mm holes and use the plugs — in solid wood, screws only (Ø 3 mm).

    Now the drawers.

    There are 8: four small, two medium and two large. We’ll build a small one step by step.

    Drawer front: 4 cam bolts (123492). Sides: 4 dowels (101345).

    Stand the sides on the front and lock with 4 cam locks (110630).

    Slide the bottom into the grooves. Add the back and tap in 4 screw-dowels.

    Screw-dowels 110519, with the hammer.

    Turn it over and screw on the 2 runners (4 screws 10080579).

    Then turn it upright and fit the knob (117615) with screw 119976.

    Build the other 7 drawers the same way.

    The 4 large ones get a support bar under the bottom (10054466, screws 105344) and 2 knobs each.

    Flip the interlock catch as shown, then slide in the small drawers.

    The catches on the vertical rails let only one drawer open at a time.
