How to Assemble IKEA ALEFJÄLL Office Chair

- Allen key (included)
You’ll need: only the two Allen keys (124345 and 100092), included. A table helps in steps 12–13.

Step-by-step assembly
Step 1
Lay the base upside down and slide the loose leg into the hub.
Work on a rug or the box to avoid scratches.
Step 2
Fix the base with 5 short bolts (122898) and the Allen key.
Use the 122898 bolts here — not 128633.
Step 3
Press the 5 casters (10048929) into the ends of the legs.
Push each one straight in — not at an angle.
Step 4
Turn the base over onto its casters.

Press the cover down onto the centre of the base.

Pull the protective cap off the gas cylinder.
Recycle the cap.

Put the gas cylinder into the hole in the centre of the base.

Lay the seat upside down and place the mechanism on it.
Insert 4 bolts (128633) by hand.

Tighten the 4 bolts with the Allen key (124345).

Place the frame upside down on the armrests.
Fix each armrest with 2 bolts (100130) and the Allen key (100092).

Tip the frame over and slide it onto the backrest.
The plate on the frame slides into the back of the backrest.

Screw the knob (1×) through the slot into the backrest.
Tighten it by hand. The knob holds the backrest in place.

Place the seat upside down on a table.

Slide the frame bracket onto the plate on the mechanism.
The backrest hangs over the edge of the table.

Fix the frame to the mechanism with 4 bolts (128633).

Turn the chair over and put it onto the gas cylinder.
The top of the cylinder goes into the hole under the mechanism.
Tips & safety
- Warning: gas cylinder Only trained personnel may replace or repair the seat height adjustment parts (manual p. 7).
- Adjust the chair to fit you Lift the lever to change the seat height; pull it out or push it in to unlock or lock the tilt. Loosen the knob on the back to move the backrest up or down (manual p. 18–19).
